ENGIE Energy Access & Crossboundary Win AFSIA Solar Award for Mini-grid Project in Nigeria
Award-winning initiative is recognized with the prestigious AFSIA Solar Energy Award 2024 for transforming lives and the environment in Nigeria.

ENGIE Energy Access and CrossBoundary Access have been honoured with the prestigious AFSIA Solar Energy Award 2024 for their innovative mini-grid project in Nigeria. This recognition underscores the project’s significant impact on creating energy access and promoting sustainable development in the region.
With a projected 560 million people in the region expected to remain without electricity by 2030, this initiative aims to reverse this trend by delivering clean, affordable, and reliable power to underserved communities. The first phase of the project will bring electricity to 30,000 people across 15 sites, with the ultimate goal of connecting 150,000 individuals
Beyond providing access to electricity, this project offers a multitude of benefits: it supports entrepreneurs, particularly women-led businesses, by providing access to productive use equipment. By replacing diesel generators, the project reduces carbon emissions and minimizes environmental degradation. Additionally, the initiative powers schools and healthcare facilities, enhancing education and healthcare outcomes for communities.

Gillian-Alexandre Huart, CEO of ENGIE Energy Access, expressed his enthusiasm: “This award highlights the transformative potential of our mini-grid projects in Nigeria. It’s just the beginning of our journey to bring clean, reliable, and scalable energy solutions to more rural communities. Collaboration is key, and we’re proud to partner with CrossBoundary Access to achieve our shared vision. With the right enabling business environment, ENGIE Energy Access is committed to significantly reducing Nigeria’s energy access deficit, driving economic development, and improving the lives of millions of Nigerians.”
ENGIE Energy Access extends its gratitude to the AFSIA Awards Organization and the dedicated teams for recognizing this mission-driven work. This award highlights the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing energy poverty and building a sustainable future.
